I enjoy using a camera to translate my visualization into reality on paper. Visualization is defined as the ability to see in the "mind's eye" the finished work before actual application. It is the creative process of images transitioning from the realm of the reactive and contemplative to the conscious and deliberate. An element of surreal gives the viewer a different perspective on the subject, removing the literal and getting down to the essence of conveying the energy of the subject. For me, the image begins when the work goes beyond merely representing reality and enters the realm of personal expression. My methods are meant to be intentional, whether in the camera or post processing.

Morning Fog

On my way to see my grandchildren early in the AM, I had to stop a few times to shoot some images with the phone. One of the things I love most about autumn is the early fog on the ponds and lakes before the sun has risen high. The steam off the water along with the early light is always such a warm, cozy mood for me. I would have liked to have spent a bit more time shooting this but I was on a mission to see the grandkids, 3 hours away!!!! Priorities....

PS...I first posted this with my iPad but I found the image to be very soft. While I don't want it too sharp as I wanted a more painterly feel, I'm struggling with the resolution via iPad and PC....an ongoing lesson. Stay tuned!

America The Beautiful

Another new thing for me today...I'm posting this from my iPad!!! Not sure about the size or look or anything for that matter and I do hope that it gets on the blog!!! That being said, I was on a boat with some friends enjoying the gorgeous day on the water...friends by my side, beautiful sunny afternoon, gorgeous view, open waters ...you get the gist of it! I noticed the flag flapping in the wind with the waves and the land in the BG. It made me a bit nostalgic and I felt the need to share this mood. I know how fortunate I am and I just wanted to share this with you all. Thanks.

Hoop Dreams

Why is it that basketball is seemingly always associated with dreams of grandiose? Is it the sport itself or the aura of the filled gym with screaming spectators as the player runs down the court dribbling the ball, passing to the next player and then slam dunk!!!??? Is it the aspirations of young players that lead them down a path for bigger dreams of the future? Wealth, fame...I'm not sure. For me, I always associated basketball with a raunchy, gym filled, sweaty smell of young teens running up and down a court, stinking up the gym. I never liked basketball. I guess that's why I like this image...it's the dark side of basketball.

Dancin in the Rain

You can always expect to see fun and interesting things at Chicago's Millenium Park. This young lady was dancing in front of the waterfalls using her umbrella as a prop.It reminded me of Gene Kelly! Her family was watching from a bench nearby as they videotaped her. She was adorable. I love the "Mickey Mouse" ears on the umbrella. It was fun shooting images of her. By the time I left, I noticed that she was fairly wet but she was grinning from ear to ear. A fun day for all!

Getting Ready

I took this image 2 falls ago and it has become one of my favs for the autumn season. To me it represents the beginning of the wildlife getting ready for the winter months. We have some wetlands near our house where the fowl are omnipresent. The geese are year round residents and they gather every fall in these wetlands to begin their migration south. One evening I was shooting some of the flora when these 2 geese took off to meet the rest of their flock. I liked the sun catching their wings in flight and the motion. It always amazes me how geese fly "in sync".

Same Palm, Different Blend

I took the same palm tree and setting from before and this time I added a water and rocks setting as the BG blending the 2 images together. I'm not sure if I like this or not but I wanted to attempt a new style of imaging. I hoped that the water, rocks and palm tree would be cohesive and set the mood for tropical. Not sure if I accomplished that or not but it was fun trying. Thanks for viewing.

Sign of Fall

Always a sign of fall...goldenrod and compass (small sunflower) flowers. On the bike trail the other morning and noticed all the beautiful yellow shining in the early sun. It made me smile. My favorite time of the year is here again! Crisp mornings and evenings, warm sun in the day, autumn leaves, squirrels gathering acorns, geese flocking to the south...so many changes in the air. I LOVE IT :):):)

Serenity

One evening last week, my husband and I were having dinner with some friends at Ft Myers Beach as the sun set. What is it about palm trees that evoke a certain mood/lifestyle and especially as the sun sets? Anyway, I excused myself from the table and went outside to capture the palm tree. I decided to give the image some texture but you can still see the pink clouds in the BG which I like. Serenity...such a beautiful part of life.

Dumped

So this is the question. Which one was dumped first? I found this crock pot "dumped" into the "dumped" tires and I thought...hmmm? who came first...:):):) Which one is cooked? It amazes me how people feel no compunction whatsoever to throw out what doesn't work anymore and just disregard the effect it might have on the environment...let alone the aesthetic value.

Shaft

At the abandoned electric company warehouse, I came across this small shaft in the side of the brick building. Clearly, this shaft had seen better days.... dilapidated ceiling, crumbling brick walls, broken pipes. Collecting trash is now its main function, it seems. I wonder what its use was a long time ago? So much to explore at this abandoned building.

Connections

Another image from an old electric warehouse in my hometown. My eye was really drawn to the locks, latches and electric outlet. And I love the different textures of the weathered wood, brick and metal door. Entry allowed...or not?

Brick, Mortar and Taps

I've been on vacation so not much time to post but I did get one image while enjoying some R&R. This image caught my eye as the taps seem to almost jump out at you. I also liked the textures of the brick, mortar and taps....2 hanging from the pipe and 2 hanging from the brick. This was shot at an old building owned by an electric company. Thanks for looking
