I enjoy using a camera to translate my visualization into reality on paper. Visualization is defined as the ability to see in the "mind's eye" the finished work before actual application. It is the creative process of images transitioning from the realm of the reactive and contemplative to the conscious and deliberate. An element of surreal gives the viewer a different perspective on the subject, removing the literal and getting down to the essence of conveying the energy of the subject. For me, the image begins when the work goes beyond merely representing reality and enters the realm of personal expression. My methods are meant to be intentional, whether in the camera or post processing.

Chicago Skyline

Another of Chicao from last weekend. Crossing the Chicago River, I liked the juxtaposition of the old iron bridge set against the modern skyline.

Underworld

Visiting Chicago last weekend and I got the opportunity to shoot some images for a few hours. I walked under Lake Shore Dr towards the Oak St Beach and found a perfect spot to lean against the wall with my iPhone watching people come and go "through the light". I waited for just the right person and this man with his dog fit the bill for me. I liked the man's neon jogging pants and his black Lab seemed to be just right as his companion. This was alot of fun for me. After applying various apps, the final image reminded me of "the underworld"...

Window of Eyes

Walking along a street, I came across this window with its reflections. The first thing that caught my attention was how each window pane displayed "eyes" from the reflections of the street and houses across the way. The "eyes" were watching...yet, I had a sense of "home" with the gingham drapes hanging...I liked the juxtaposition.

Station Wagon

I was in Chicago this weekend babysitting my 2 grandchildren. One afternoon my husband and I took the kids to an art festival and our grandson, 2 1/2 yrs old, got a fish face painted and a tattoo. After the noisy festival, we headed to the local toy store where he picked out a station wagon for his toy from us. He never had heard of a station wagon before and out of all the trucks, cars and planes, he wanted that one. I added a vintage and wide angle look to go with the "old station wagon". Not sure I succeeded but I do like the shot....after all, he is my grandson! :)

Calladium Iguana

Have you ever noticed the veins in a calladium plant? When I started fooling around with Snapseed, the image began to look like an abstract iguana...leathery with many veins...it's been one of those days :)

My Haven

I call this "My Haven" as I'm often found reading in this little spot in the shady yard on lazy summer days. However, this summer has been brutally hot and my desire to sit outside in 100deg plus weather is not very appealing. I miss my haven. It seems to be fading away....

Breckenridge Pub

This pub is deserted, left behind in some corn fields that will soon be gone...thanks in large part to a new section of a highway being built and the fact that no one ever went there. I always found the architecture of this pub a bit weird for corn country, no town, just a pub in the middle of nowhere...

Chicago Skyline

There was a very low lying fog coming in over the Chicago skyline. I shot this through my car window as my husband drove. The fog was quite eerie looking so I wanted to add some grit and hardness to what I was feeling when I shot this image.

American Pride

I had a sense of patriotism when I shot this trawler. To me it symbolized what America stands for. I created a "halo" effect to showcase the pride that the shrimper must have felt when he dubbed his trawler the American Pride.
