I enjoy using a camera to translate my visualization into reality on paper. Visualization is defined as the ability to see in the "mind's eye" the finished work before actual application. It is the creative process of images transitioning from the realm of the reactive and contemplative to the conscious and deliberate. An element of surreal gives the viewer a different perspective on the subject, removing the literal and getting down to the essence of conveying the energy of the subject. For me, the image begins when the work goes beyond merely representing reality and enters the realm of personal expression. My methods are meant to be intentional, whether in the camera or post processing.

Door #1, Door #2 or Door #3

Let's Make A Deal...Your prize is behind door #??? Old warehouses along the East River in Brooklyn are plenty. Some of them were tobacco warehouses and this is one of them. The faded letters on the building's facade are still apparent and the doors are sometimes ajar. It is the hope that some of these warehouses will some day be renovated inside with new apartments and shops along the river. I hope the exterior will be preserved.

This is the colored version. I'm not sure which one I like better and upon further observation, I will probably reprocess for a different feel with a bit more texture perhaps.

Sunset Seat

Sometimes simple says it all. The sunset light shining on the bench beckoned one to sit down and enjoy the evening light...yet, it was so cold that no one wanted to sit...just keep moving to stay warm...so the bench remained empty, void of any human contact. Yet, for me, the simplicity of the bench with the beautiful light was all that I needed to keep me warm inside with thoughts of hot cocoa waiting for me when I arrived back home.

Abstract Reflection

I have a love affair with boats and their reflections. I have always felt that a boat could take me away from reality and send me into the depths of the ocean (or lake or pond or puddle!!!). With this image, I strived to not only portray the boat and its reflection but to have the waves of the ocean form a bond with the boat and make me feel like I'm on the boat in the ocean....one to one with the boat and ocean. The image is a 2 layered shot...waves and reflections...boat and reflections. I'm on the boat in the waves and life has become surreal...it's a nice feeling.

Winter Blahs

I continue to strive to create images that have meaning or feeling to the viewer. This one seems to resonate with me in a dark, somber way. I created the image with 3 separate images layered and processed with Nik, Topaz and Blender. In viewing this image, I contemplate February cabin fever or winter blahs as some like to call it. Either way, the finished image is what I envisioned when I started the post process. I'm excited in the way that my images are starting to reflect my vision of the final product and for me, that's 3/4ths of the fun of the creative process. Thanks for looking!

Summer Breeze

I'm ready for a little summer right about now! I start to get the winter blahs in mid February and long for the beautiful summer days. Won't be long now so I thought I would post a tropical image to get me in the mood...:):):) I decided to treat the image with a soft focus to make me feel breezy and warm. The colorful adirondack chair invites me to just sit and enjoy the soft sea breeze and lull me into a summer afternoon nap...if only :):):)

Smashed Dahlias

I shot the dahlias through my kitchen window one afternoon and while I liked the dahlias, I didn't like the overall BG and wasn't too sure about the dahlias either. In the meantime, I've experimented some with textures, layering, etc and decided to try some new things with my images. The water shot was taken while I was in the car and the rain was pounding the windshiled. I decided to layer the two images and when I got done, I liked the "smashed window" effect that I created. Just having some fun this afternoon...beats doing taxes :):):)

Then I took it a bit further and grunged it up some to add texture and a bit of "old" feel to it. I think I like it...at least, the creative brain is trying!!! More to come :):):)

Brooklyn Bridge...Again!

I'm still working on some of my December images from Brooklyn. I'm almost done with Brooklyn but before I leave NYC behind, I'd like to present 2 different moods of the bridge on the same morning. I'm not sure which one I like better. I emphasized the bridge in the BG a lot more than the image below for a more detailed mood on a foggy morning. However, the one below shows the bridge fading in the fog which creates a moody feel. Which one do you like? Or do you like either of them at all!!!??? Thanks for viewing my Brooklyn shots. I'll be working on some new ones in the weeks to come.

Rocky Morning

This image was shot on the same day as my other foggy images in Brooklyn along the East River. What captured my eye in this image was the monotone view with a touch of the tan grasses and a bit of the green grass in the BG....a nice contrast to the otherwise monotone shot.

It's been a while since I posted or even picked up the camera. I am a tax preparer and of course, this is my busy time of the year. I probably won't be posting too much in the next few weeks but I do appreciate all of you who visit my website. It is much appreciated! Keep checking back as I will get my act together!!! :):):)
