I have created this blog to challenge myself to try new imaging, whether through my iPhone or my DSLRs. It is my desire to learn more about photography not only through the camera but with post processing which I find to be exciting and adventurous. As I shoot each image, I envision a finished product through the use of my camera tools and software.I hope as you view my posts, you too will enjoy my new ventures on my journey into the digital world of photogaphy. Click on image for larger view.
I enjoy using a camera to translate my visualization into reality on paper. Visualization is defined as the ability to see in the "mind's eye" the finished work before actual application. It is the creative process of images transitioning from the realm of the reactive and contemplative to the conscious and deliberate. An element of surreal gives the viewer a different perspective on the subject, removing the literal and getting down to the essence of conveying the energy of the subject. For me, the image begins when the work goes beyond merely representing reality and enters the realm of personal expression. My methods are meant to be intentional, whether in the camera or post processing.

Fluffy Clouds...of sorts!
These grasses always remind me of "fluffy clouds". The grasses are so soft and the colors are so inviting. I want to just throw myself on top of the "fluffy clouds" and float. Of course, I'd hurt myself as I landed onto the ground :) The Florida grasses are quite difficult to photograph due to the very thin nature of the flora. Morning light adds a wonderful glow and aura to the grasses.

Rainbow Eucalyptus Tree
These trees have the coolest bark. Different colors and shapes…love them! I decided to just do a straight process on this image as the bark is so colorful and the texture is rich, there wasn't any enhancement necessary, IMO. Enjoy…

DeSoto
WOW…I didn't realize how long it's been since I posted anything. It's been a crazy winter but I feel like I'm beginning to get a handle on things for the new year. Found this old DeSoto at a Florida festival a few weeks back and thought I would fool around with it. I did some PSE 10 work and then did a couple of Topaz plug ins. I really like Topaz as it gives you so many options and you can tweak them all to your liking.

Beetlemania
If you're like me along with thousands of other baby boomers, the VW Beetle was one of the hottest cars on the market for along time. I have such fond memories with mine. My Dad said no one should ever drive a car that doesn't have the engine in the front...why one could get hurt!!! Anyway, I didn't just have one, I had two and both of them ended up in the trash...kind of like this one! Great cars but not super reliant...at least the ones I had weren't! I went to the extreme on this image with the post processing as I wanted to project a feeling of past, of falling apart, of old memories.

Taillight
I think taillights were much more interesting in the earlier eras of cars. This almost looks like a bullet to me.

Hippie Times
Aah...memories of another era of peace, tranquility and oh, yes, psychedelic trips (in more ways than one!!!). I always have a small smile on my face when I see one of these old VW buses/vans. I can rmemeber many good times in the back seats enjoying my college years (oops, was I supposed to be studying???!!!). Added a bit of solarization to the image to enhance the mood of my memories.

NYC Sunrise Icons
Three iconic architectures of NYC on a beautiful warm sunrise morning...Brooklyn Bridge, Freedom Tower and Gehry's. The sun was slowly rising and the NYC fixtures just lit up one morning this fall. A quiet walk along the East River in Brooklyn....never 2 mornings alike and always peaceful. It's one of my favorite places to enjoy a few reflective moments to myself before the day gets started and the hustle bustle of the river begins to awaken!

Chevrolet
Another from Old Car City (OCC). I felt like I was a little kid in a candy store with so many photo opps at OCC. Every turn presented another great shot. So much fun and a great relaxant for me. Can't wait to go back and spend some serious time shooting there.

Got a Handle
Another from Old Car City...this one was a business truck with its name, phone number and other pertinent info relating to its business....you can tell from the rusted out colors that the truck was originally painted with bright colors but the erosion over the years has given the truck IMO much more character! Many more to come frmo Old Car City...

The Flying Nun
Another "old car city" shot...an old cadillac car ornament. The leaves were collecting in the Bg and the car was growing moss but the ornament remained mostly intact! As soon as I saw this, it reminded me of The Flying Nun (or Michael Phelps doing the Butterfly!)...another fun image!

Cosmos
In Cartersville, Georgia while doing shots of old cars, I came across some cosmos fields in the early morning. So beautiful in the morning light....So Mother Nature at her best and then Man at his best at Old Car City!!! What a fun morning I had!

Dazed
FInally, I'm able to post some pics from Old Car City in Cartersville, Georgia!!! What a great place to photograph...old cars in woods and fields. So many great abstract opps, great color, super fun to reminisce about the old models! Unfortunately, I was only there for 2 hours. Could have spent 2 days there :) There are alot of workshops available for one to join and spend an entire weekend there. However, I find that one can do it all on your own...$25 for entry and don't forget to talk to Dean. He's a great storyteller!!!
Anyway, I titled this one "Dazed" because the windshield is broken and the door is ajar....as if someone had been in a car accident. There will be much more coming from Old Car City in the weeks to come.
So...definitely make this a spot to go to for a day or two. It's 45 minutes north of Atlanta...quick day trip!

Window Decor
I love this! It puts a smile on my face every time! Real flowers, fake flowers, hula dancers, smiley faces, tchotchkes...what's not to love!

Psychedelic
In anticipation of my trip next week to Old Car City, I thought I would post an old car. This is a restored red 1939 Model T truck. And when I say red, it's a bright cherry red completely restored. However, Old Car City has over 4000 cars dating from 1972 and older situated on many acres of fields and forests. The cars are totally rusted out and beyond use. SO I played around with the red truck in honor of old cars and came up with this! I think it's fun and isn't that what photography should be all about...FUN!!!

The Lady
In honor of Columbus Day, I post this image of The Lady. Just as Columbus discovered America, so did the immigrants who came to America with little or nothing to call their own. I processed this photo as if the picture had been taken by an immigrant 100 years ago and the photo has faded..but not the memory.

Ocean's Teardrop
This is a composite of 2 images....a teardrop chiseled in a door and ocean waves....and I like the results! I love the luminosity in the teardrop, I love the vibrant colors and I love the mood it captures. I feel like a pendulum is about to swing, to flow. It makes me feel happy. Any thoughts?
